The next race in the Mid-Week Series takes runners to Whittle Pike, starting in the village of Cowpe. Run entirely on the moors, this challenging route has sometimes been used as an English Championship race, showing the quality and toughness of the course.
The race heads out towards Waugh’s Well, a site associated with the Lancashire dialect poet Edwin Waugh, before dropping down towards the Plunge. From there, runners face a long, steady climb up towards Whittle Pike, with views stretching from the Yorkshire Dales to the Peak District.
The route then turns back towards Waugh’s Well before a final climb through Cragg Quarry. A fast finish back into Cowpe village brings this classic fell race to an exciting end.
