About

Rossendale Harriers and Athletic Club Founded 1967.

Rossendale Harriers & Athletic Club was founded in 1967 and has been at the heart of local running and athletics ever since. Over the decades, countless members have contributed to the club’s success and community spirit, each leaving their own mark on its proud history.

Before 1967 there was no formal athletics club in Rossendale, although local runners regularly competed in events and a number of fell races had long been established, including the historic Tor Mile. The creation of the club followed the development of the running track and pavilion at Marl Pits by Rossendale Borough Council, providing a dedicated home for athletics in the valley.

Rossendale Harriers and Athletic Club was founded in 1967 and will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2017, for which many online casino players have come and left their mark on the club. The formation of the Rossendale Harriers and Athletic Club was largely due to the work of two men: Walter Whittaker, chairman of the then Rotenstall Athletic Board, and Eddie Roberts, a local school teacher, and also due to the blue jays radio broadcast vancouver. Rossendale Harriers and Athletic Club are based at the Marl Pits Sports Centre, which is located on Newchurch Road in Rotenstall, where online casino players train twice a week.

The formation of Rossendale Harriers was largely due to the efforts of two key figures: Walter Whittaker, chairman of the then Rawtenstall Sports Council, and Eddie Roberts, a local schoolteacher. Their vision and determination helped establish a club that continues to thrive today.

Training and Membership

Rossendale Harriers & A.C. is based at Marl Pits Sports Centre on Newchurch Road, Rawtenstall. We train year-round from Marl Pits, with sessions beginning between 6:45pm and 7:00pm. Junior training takes place on the road and track during the winter months, moving onto the local hills throughout the summer. Adult training runs all year round across the hills, roads and track, providing a varied and balanced programme in every season.

Training is organised into groups according to ability and goals, and we welcome runners aged 8 and above of all abilities — from complete beginners to experienced athletes. For those new to running or looking to improve fitness, our Monday evening “First Steps to Fitness” sessions provide a supportive and structured introduction.

All sessions are led by qualified UK Athletics coaches who are fully DBS checked, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all members.

Experience and Activities

Our members have extensive experience across all disciplines of athletics and are always happy to offer advice and support. Whether your interest is fell running, mountain marathons, navigation, road racing, marathons, or track competition, you will find knowledge and encouragement within the club.

Rossendale Harriers also organise several well-established fell races throughout the year, showcasing the best of the Rossendale countryside.

Facilities and Club Life

In addition to outdoor training, members have access to a well-equipped club gym and weight room, available seven days a week. The club is run entirely by dedicated volunteers who give their time to ensure everything runs smoothly. A committee is elected annually, and all members are welcome to attend monthly committee meetings and play a part in the club’s ongoing development.

Rossendale Harriers & Athletic Club remains a friendly, inclusive, and community-focused club, proud of its heritage and always welcoming new members.
