Edenfield Fell Race

Description:
The summer season of fell racing starts with this classic local race from Edenfield. Beginning at Edenfield Cricket Club, the route heads up Sand Beds Lane towards Cowpe Lowe before passing Waugh’s Well and climbing on to Whittle Pike. With sweeping views over Rossendale and Edenfield throughout, the course offers a true taste of traditional fell running on familiar local ground.
Runners pass Waugh’s Well, once home to local Lancashire dialect poet Edwin Waugh, where the ruins of his farmhouse can still be seen on the hillside — a reminder of the area’s rich history and heritage. From here, the route continues across open fell to Whittle Pike before turning for a fast and exhilarating descent.
Be prepared for a tough, steep climb, a quick downhill section and a fast finish back on the cricket field. A well-loved fixture on the local calendar, the Edenfield Fell Race is the perfect way to kick off the summer fell racing season.
